LAYOP Students of the Month | Intro + Nomination Process

Posted: Oct 05 2016

Las Vegas: Starting today (Wednesday, October 5th), we're honoring students for academic excellence and athletic achievement. Do you know a CCSD student (Grades K-12) who's taking care of business in the classroom? President of the Debate Club? Scored 3 touchdowns in one game?

We're taking nominations for the first round of the LAYOP Students of the Month award. This monthly initiative will honor the hard work and dedication of one (1) male student and one (1) female student for one month. Each winner will receive one (1) free LAYOP t-shirt of their choice (valued at $30 retail or less). Once winners pick up free t-shirt at LAYOP store (Downtown Container Park - 707 Fremont St, Suite 2320, Las Vegas, NV 89101), we will take a picture of them and post it via LAYOP.com blog and inside our physical store.

Possible award-winning behavior and accolades include (but not subject to):
- Perfect Attendance
- Honor Roll
- Academic/Athletic Accomplishment
- Landing Major Role in School Play
- Elected Club Officer

WE want to hear from YOU! Tell us who we should choose for our very first LAYOP Students of the Month. Submit your nominations (full name of student/grade level/school name) and why you think they should be awarded the grand prize (at least 1-2 sentences). Nominations end this Friday, October 7th at midnight PST. The LAYOP Team will select the two (2) special winners and announce them to the public on next Wednesday, October 12th.

Happy nominating, stay in school and always live at your own pace!

I nominate Shaolin Teeters, she is a 1st grader at Stuckey Elementary. She is an excellent student, with a perfect attendance record and reads at a third grade level. She plays soccer for the Kickin Cuties and loves to draw and help her mom take care of her baby sister.

I nominate Lucah Moncayo because he is first and foremost an awesome older brother; second, an amazing friend; and last but not least a super sweet 6 year old boy, who has the kindest heart! He is a 1st grader at Vanderburg Elementary School and recently won Leader of the Month award at his school. He is a great soccer player and enjoys drawing and playing with Legos.

I am nominating my son, Jaron Webb. Jaron is 12 years old and in 7th grade at St. Anne Catholic School. On September 15 I learned that Jaron had completed 12% of his Accelerated Reading goal and by September 22 was to be at 40%. Instead of being defeated and thinking that he couldn’t accomplish this, he buckled down and decided he was going to tackle this. He did…and much more. He did make his goal by the date and currently sits at 91% of his goal that he has until the beginning of November to complete. Jaron has read two to three books a week and maintained from 90-100% on the tests for each book. He also has become the top percentage holder in his class for the boys and is also the most improved. Jaron has not only met and exceeded his goal but has spoken something I thought I would never hear from my child…just the other day he said “Mom, I actually love reading now.”

Jaron has always been an amazing son…but in the past few weeks has shown me he can step up and overcome any goals. I am so proud of him and feel that he deserves this recognition. Thank you!!
