Good morning, family. It's Downtown Tuesday time!!!
Our third feature highlights a Las Vegas native, Taryn Vazquez. She is the General Manager of Bin 702, a wine/beer/cheese bar inside Downtown Container Park. I sat down with Taryn and asked her the following questions:
LAYOP Full Timeout with Taryn Vazquez of Bin 702
1. As a Las Vegas native, how excited are you about the future of the DTLV community and culture?
Very excited! Growing up here was challenging because of the lack of kid-friendly establishments. Just a few years ago, I wouldn’t dare go farther east on Fremont than Las Vegas Boulevard. Now there are family restaurants, retail shops, and even a giant playground for several blocks. It’s nice to watch the neighborhood grow.
2. Bin 702 is one of DTLV's hidden gems inside Downtown Container Park. Tell me about its origin. What makes it unique?
There never used to be a casual place to get unique wine downtown. We opened with 16 wines on tap and a bottle list of 50 or so with a food menu focusing on charcuterie. We’ve evolved the menu since then, getting a bit more beer-centric and adding (our now famous) grilled cheeses and montaditos. We still have a full wine bottle list and 8 wines on tap, but I think our food and beer (and cocktail) selection are now what set us apart from the rest.
3. Favorite part of being GM of Bin 702? Least favorite part of being GM of Bin 702?
I’ve been with Bin since they opened in 2013 starting as a bartender and had part in every change made since then. My favorite part of being GM is that I know the place inside and out. I love seeing its progress and growth from a behind-the-scenes standpoint. My least favorite part: paperwork!
4. With 2017 right around the corner, what three new attractions would you like to see in DTLV?
I’d love to see a funky ice cream parlor, hopefully one with a bar attached. Hmm… Maybe some rides other than SlotZilla. I’m loving what’s going on right now in the 18b neighborhood. I’m looking forward what’s next down there.
